It's not really the baby that's kept me from blogging of late as much as it has been the Neal Stephenson novels.
These 900 to 1,200 page literal monstrosities have kept my impulses at bay.
Since the Spring I've plodded through roughly half of Stephenson's catalog — including Anathem, The Diamond Age and Cryptonomicon.
Down in the States last week, I picked up two more 1000-pagers from his three-book Baroque Cycle series — determined to keep this enjoyable spree going before I succumb to reading William Gibson's latest offering 'Zero History'. Maybe I'll wait for the soft cover.
I'm a real fan of the exceptionally long novel, books that impose a sentence on the reader.
And stupidly long books seem to be in vogue these days — a byproduct of the JK Rowling/adolescent fantasy genre that has prevailed in recent years.
Speaking of which — somebody has to make an awesome movie out of Neil Gaiman's 'The Graveyard Book' — or not, I don't know.
I just wish more people knew about it.
On another note, I signed up for the free trial of Canadian Netflix through the PS3 last night and it's pretty cool — It's kind of an on-demand video streaming service. While they're not exactly streaming new release titles, there's an okay selection of fairly recent movies. The TV show selection is lame, but the documentary section alone is worth the $8 bucks a month. Picture quality is great and there's next to no waiting around for things to buffer — works good.
