A song for Vegas...

The journey...

Theodore Roosevelt National Park, North Dakota
Wild horses keeping cool in Theodore Roosevelt Park
Red Lodge, Montana
Red Lodge, Montana
Beartooth Pass, Montana/Wyoming — just shy of 11,000 feet.
Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming
Queen's Garden, Bryce Canyon, Utah
(Right)Bryce Point, Bryce Canyon, Utah
(Bottom) The Narrows, Zion National Park, Utah — see Lindsay in the bottom left corner.

Back online!
Campground wi-fi has been very sketchy across the American west and incredibly expensive here in Vegas — $15 for 24 hours. But hey, that's only one strip-joint highball so why the hell not?

I thought I'd post a few pics from the journey to our desert destination.
People always shake their heads at us like we're insane when we tell them we're driving to Vegas. I'd say you're insane not to.
Many times I've been left speechless by the stunning beauty of these landscapes.
I'll let the pictures do the talking.
Tomorrow we are wed!

*Bachelor party went awesome Monday, with plenty of big fake boobies and stretch limos — primary instigator, cousin Mark, won back everything he spent that night. Stay tuned for photos of that.

On the road...

On the road to Vegas.
I'll post when I can. The pics should be fun.

An open letter to the Bachelorette...

Grrrr!
Gillian, you're such a chickenhead!
How can you even like that untalented Texan arsehole Wes?
Your crappy instincts about people reflect poorly on your character and we tire of watching you dig your hole of heartbreak deeper.
I'm sick of yelling at the TV. Get out of my living room. You're a Canadian, you're supposed to be smarter than that.
I'm serious, you're no longer welcome. Leave.

***UPDATE***
Y'know what?
Never mind, it's not even worth saying.
You're dead to me.

RIP: Sound Off

Well, the local radio station has finally had enough. CKDR shut down their online discussion forum Sound Off today, citing (and I'm paraphrasing here), 'life's too short to deal with all you asshats'.
"We have better things to do in our work day and our time off. After much discussion and a particularly stupid week, we're doing something that we've been discussing for a while.
Oilsands - Peeper - Badger - Lily of whatever - et al, we invite you to create your own forum (somewhere else) and feel free to do what you will with it."

Can't say I blame CKDR one bit. Anonymity on the web has given rise to the very worst aspects of human nature. And in this small rural backwater it has, at times, revealed that the townsfolk are often far more ignorant, uniformed and devious than you give them credit for. It wasn't the kind of crowd you could turn your back on for a second when it came to legal issues of libel and slander.

Towards the end, I think it became a game to a small minority of posters to consistently provoke outrage, or draw attention to some retarded conspiracy theory that they actually believed in. The tone of the forum was consistently ratcheted up to levels of discord and idiocy that simply could not be sustained.
Fortunately for me, I already have an outlet for my mental rubbish....
Pssst. You're reading it right now.

The King is dead, long live the king...

I know, I know — everybody and their pet chimpanzee is writing something today on what Michael Jackson meant to them.
I'm actually pretty disgusted to see the same disingenuous assholes who were tearing him down a month or two ago now gushing about his monumental significance to this planet Earth.
I'll do him the respect of shutting my mouth, suffice to say that Jackson's death brings to an end a very sad and tragic story that I had hoped to read about one day in his own words. Though I'm sure there are some opportunistic hacks out there who already have an unauthorized biography just waiting to drop.
If Jackson shared little in common with the rest of humanity, at the very least he faced the inevitability of death which no one can escape.
Aren't I a ray of sunshine today?

Photo of the Day

There are really only two insects that I enjoy spending time with. Moths and dragonflies. Perhaps I'm anthropomorphizing, but I've had dozens of meaningful interactions with curious and social dragonflies that indicate to me that they possess a level of intelligence at least on par with the dumber of my two cats.
They provide welcome relief to the horrid swarms of mosquitos now hatched and making up for lost time.
Moths, while sometimes destructive, are just evolutionary marvels to behold. This Twin-Spotted Sphinx (Smerinthus jamaicensis) had its daylight sleepytime in the foyer of a water treatment plant interrupted by a press conference.
Poor little fella.
I'm on the lookout for Luna this summer — the giant green-winged beauties you see on the sleeping pill commercials. I think they come out later in the summer.

Phoenix...

Some tunes for your Wednesday.
I have to hand it to the music producers at Letterman. They've been booking a tasty lineup of indie acts as of late. When you're looking for high quality live performance clips on You Tube, it usually comes down to the Letterman or Jools Holland (UK) shows. Saturday Night Live just yanks their clips for exclusive streaming on their own site, but won't stream in Canada.

Anyways, here's French band Phoenix, who sound more like they're from New York — a nice amalgam of The Strokes or The Walkmen sort of sound. The song is called 1901.

HA! I knew it!...

Tattoo girl finally admitted she lied.

Now she's horribly disfigured AND globally ostracized.
Silly girl. Tricks are for Chris.
